Brittany Newell is the Director of Orchestras at Ballard High School, where she leads the Symphonic Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, and Fiddle Ensemble. Since she has been at Ballard, the Orchestras have consistently earned Superior ratings at regional and national festivals. In 2015, the Fiddle Ensemble won first place at the WWU/ASTA Eclectic Strings Division. Both Orchestras received Gold Awards at the 2015 Vancouver Heritage Festival, and the Symphonic Orchestra earned the Adjudicator’s Award. The Ballard Chamber Orchestra was selected by audition as one of a handful of the nation’s most distinguished high school chamber orchestras to perform at the 2016 National Orchestra Festival.
Ms. Newell graduated from the University of Washington where she earned a BM in Music Education (Violin emphasis) and a BA in Mathematics, and is currently pursuing a dual Master degree in Violin and String Pedagogy at Western Washington University. She has enjoyed performing with various local orchestras including Northwest Symphony Orchestra, Seattle Collaborative Orchestra and Cascade Symphony Orchestra. In 2016 she received the Outstanding Educator Award by the Ballard High School PTA.
